Which Electronic component supplier will rescue my short-sighted friend?

A friend of mine sat in the cinema and wore his own glasses and then a pair of 3D glasses over the top, so determined was he to get the “full effect” of the latest 3D movie.  Not sure how he felt, but it didn’t look that cool.  3D (dimensional) is the buzzword at the moment and now we’ve move from HD ready to 3D compatible with domestic TVs as well!  It’s a great time for electronic component suppliers– business is booming!

3D vision generates a spatial perception of events onscreen and uses many of the brain’s capabilities. TV viewing concentrates on delivering two pictures to the eyes of the viewer and the public is hungry for more 3D movies and shows.  Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, Mitsubishi, Philips and others are all jockeying for a position in the new 3D TV market.

Electronic component suppliers Samsung and KG have been quick to make their own branded 3D TVs.  These two Korean born companies are also major suppliers of the panels used to make 3D TVs for other non-Korean firms.  One is put in mind of the struggle between video formats in the 1980’s, when Sony’s Betamax lost the fight against JVC’s Video Home System.

Samsung 3D TVs use an active shutter glass technology.  This means that 3D TV viewers are made to wear slightly odd-looking, clunky, battery operated glasses to create the 3D effect.  Not sure if my friend will manage those on top of their regular glasses … could get tricky.
